Pre-req: Completion of the Core Curriculum Research & Professional Writing requirement. Critical investigation of the seven “undoubted” letters of Paul in history of religions perspective. Special attention will be given to Paul’s efforts to create and maintain new religious communities with a distinct social and cultural identity in the ancient Mediterranean world; to the beliefs, practices, and authority structures that defined those communities; and to the controversies Paul’s efforts generated within the early Jesus movement.
