Religion and Culture in Africa explores the diverse manifestations of worldviews, beliefs, symbols, traditions, practices and cultures of African peoples. While recognizing the diversity of Africa, the course will also present the case for a core of beliefs and practices that sustain a sense of unity and interrelatedness among the peoples of Africa. Readings will address African Traditional Religions and the ways in which religion is inherent in all aspects of African life and culture. The course will also explore African culture in such areas as literature, music, dance, arts, and drama. The course format will be lecture, discussions, films, and presentations.
