Population Health and Wellness in a Pluralistic Society: A Community Perspective (Honors)

Catalog description

Prerequisite: Admission to the nursing program or permission of the instructor, admission to the Honors Program, and TBSN: NUR 352. Corequisite: NUR 401. This honors-level course explores provides an advanced, scholarly exploration of population health principles and strategies for promoting wellness in across communities. Students will critically appraise the nursing and public health literature, analyze social determinants of health, health disparities, and culturally responsive care within a pluralistic society. Emphasis is placed on community assessment using evidence-based tools, culturally responsive care, health promotion, and shared decision-making with leadership and interprofessional collaboration lens. Advanced case studies will facilitate shared decision making for complex issues such as unsheltered, refugee health, chronic disease management, and community health screenings.
