Foundations for Professional Nursing Practice

Prerequisite: Admission to the nursing program or permission of the instructor. Corequisite: TBSN/ABSN: NUR 231; OABSN: NUR 232. This foundational course introduces students to the discipline of nursing, emphasizing the development of professional identity, ethics, and core nursing values. Students explore foundational principles of nursing practice, including the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics, and scope and standards of practice. Through real world examples and interprofessional education (IPE), students will explore contemporary nursing practice. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, and communication. Communication will be enhanced through an introduction to medical terminology.
