Catalog description

Prerequisites: MTX 180; MTX 181; MTX 280; MTX 281. Music Therapy Major or permission from course instructor. Co-requisites: MTX 172. This course expands students’ functional musicianship skills with a primary focus on keyboard/piano techniques for clinical music therapy settings. Students will develop competency in harmonization, chord progressions, melodic accompaniment, and improvisation, while continuing to refine their guitar, voice, and percussion skills. Emphasis is placed on using the keyboard as a versatile clinical tool across diverse populations. Music therapy majors must earn at least a “B-” for this course to be counted toward the music therapy bachelor’s degree (or its post-bac equivalent).
