Foundations of Therapeutic Musicianship II

Catalog description

Prerequisites: MTX 170; MTX 180; MTX 280; Pre-Music Therapy Major or permission from course instructor. Co-requisites: MTX 171; MTX 281. This course focuses on functional student development of beginning elements of music (i.e., melody, harmony, and rhythm) including diatonic harmony, musical language including music notation and analysis, and the study of various scales (e.g., major, natural minor, harmonic minor, and melodic minor). Students will study interval and triad construction, cadences, and beginning harmonization. Additionally, students will study how to aurally identify and replicate these concepts. Music therapy majors must earn at least a “B-” for this course to be counted towards the music therapy bachelor’s degree (or its post-bac equivalent).
