Catalog description

Your lives are filled with literacy practices-even outside the classroom. This course explores how reading, writing, technology use, and social interaction shape your engagement with fandoms such as anime, manga, music, and video games. Together, we’ll investigate the literacy practices you use in these communities: How do they shape your identity? How do they help you connect with others? And how do they compare to the literacies you use in academic settings? By examining these questions through personal reflection and scholarly research, you’ll develop a deeper understanding of literacy as a social practice and strengthen your skills as a critical reader, writer, and thinker.
