Catalog description

The survey course provides an overview of how global rhetorical traditions and literacies are studied. It introduces students to an expanded view of literacy that includes more than decoding letters. Literacy includes ways of reading, writing, communicating, and being members of communities. The course also gives students an introduction to understanding and valuing diverse literacies across the world and within historically marginalized communities in the United States. Through the course, students will be asked to analyze their own ways of reading, writing, and understanding the world and compare it to a variety of discourse communities.
