Catalog description

Prerequisite: CMG 330, IST 203. This course focuses on technological advancements that motivate the implementation of innovative methods in the construction industry. An overview of basic computer hardware and operating systems, file management, and general application software is provided. Construction organizations draw upon the recent industrial digitalization trends such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing in the context of e-Construction. Building information modeling (BIM) digitally captures a representation of buildings supporting diverse activities throughout the project lifecycle. The course includes discussions on modifying current means and methods of practice through a blend of BIM, GIS, with an introduction to Civil3D and advanced Excel. The integration of the internet of things (IoT) and BIM paved the way for the emergence of the Digital Twin. The student is exposed to the concept of Digital Twin Construction (DTC), a “data-centric construction management” workflow used to monitor and control the design and construction. Software applications such as the Digital Twin are created by embracing the integration of semantic web technologies, field sensors and IoT.
