Means and Methods in Fabricating and Erecting Steel Structures

Prerequisite: CMG 220. The course introduces students to the management and construction of steel elements used in the built environment primarily associated with building frames. Focus is given to bolted as well as welded steel connections. The student is exposed to certain provisions of ASCE 7 Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures, AISC’s Manual of Steel Construction and the American Welding Society’s AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code. Types of welds and their capacities are discussed. Includes the interpretation and preparation of shop drawings.
