What are the fundamental principles underlying America’s liberal democratic civic-political order? Where do they come from and how has our understanding of them been affected by debates about them? How do our civic principles shape the American way of life, especially in regard to the role of religion, science, capitalism, and government? This course introduces students to the fundamental principles of the American liberal democratic constitutional order and the way of life associated with those principles.
