Catalog description

Prerequisites: CHE 302 and CHE 306, or permission of instructor. This course focuses on the understanding of basic electrochemical engineering principles and their application to real world topics such as energy storage, industrial electrolysis, and corrosion. Half of the course will focus on understanding the fundamentals of electrochemical engineering. Students will explore the effect of thermodynamics, transport phenomena, and reaction engineering on electrochemical processes and systems. Experimental methods for the determination of electrode kinetic parameters and typical electrochemical instrumentation will also be discussed and enhanced with in-class examples. The results will be used to correlate the electrochemical engineering principles and the design theory taught in the course with actual operation of equipment.
