Catalog description

Prerequisites: Admission into the Cleveland Clinic School of Medical Laboratory Sciences clinical training program. Corequisites: All Session I courses must be taken concurrently. Lectures cover the collection and processing of donor units, donor screening, component preparation, and adverse effects of blood transfusion. Additionally, Hemolytic Disease of the Fetus and Newborn as well as the various types of Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemias are investigated in some depth. Laboratory work will give the student hands-on experience with instrumentation and manual methods to assist with the understanding of troubleshooting, quality control and result interpretation.
