Catalog description
Prerequisite: BIO 306 and BIO 310, or equivalents, or permission of instructor. A course in either statistics or computer science is highly recommended. Introduction to the tools and techniques of bioinformatics, with emphasis on computational techniques to analyze genomic and proteomic data. Topics include searching of databases, sequence alignment and analysis, phylogenetic methods and computer programming to analyze database information. A project using original or internet bioinformatics tools is required.
