Catalog description

This course introduces students to the wildland fire profession through an examination of the wildland fire season, organizational structure, and human factors influencing firefighter performance. Curriculum is aligned with National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) S-110 and L-180 standards and incorporates analysis of the previous fire season to provide current, real-world context. Students will explore wildland fire agency roles, operational culture, and multiple career pathways within federal, state, local, and private fire organizations. Emphasis is placed on foundational professionalism, decision-making, communication, and accountability in the wildland fire environment. The course also prepares students for entry into the wildland fire workforce through resume development, hiring process navigation, and participation in fire hiring events.
