This course examines psycho-social issues and the development of individual identities within American communities of color, using race, culture, and education as frameworks to explore issues of inequality and societal challenges. Students will explore diversity characteristics such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, age, and ability through the lenses of foundational theories, including Social Identity Theory, and Intersectionality. The course emphasizes the influence of these factors on personal development, learning, and agency. Additionally, it fosters critical thinking skills to analyze the causes and consequences of inequity, encouraging creative solutions to address these disparities within society.
