Public Health Nursing

Catalog description

This course examines public health nursing theory, health promotion, and the nursing process as applied to individuals, families, groups, and communities across the lifespan. Emphasis is placed on population health, social determinants of health, health equity, and culturally responsive care in diverse settings. Students explore environmental health, epidemiology, healthcare systems, policy development, economics, and disaster preparedness. The course integrates evidence-based practice and community engagement while emphasizing the multiple roles of the public health nurse, including caregiver, educator, advocate, manager, researcher, and leader, through classroom and a variety of clinical/lab and experiential learning experiences. Prerequisites: BI 304, All 100,200,300 level nursing courses.
