Catalog description

This course provides the course taker with foundational chemistry concepts and explores how they relate to our world. This course begins with a focus on understanding basic chemical processes, starting with the definition of matter and progressing through the atom, molecules, intermolecular interactions, chemical equations, and stoichiometry. Students then learn the fundamentals of organic chemistry with a focus on functional groups and nuclear chemistry with a focus on properties, health and safety as they build to biochemistry where students are exposed to the four major biological macromolecules, enzymes, and flow of genetic information. Lab exercises relate to the topics discussed.
