Advanced Techniques for Anti-Racist Practice

Catalog description

This is a practice course designed to introduce students to social work practice from non-Western perspectives. Anti-racist practice is rooted in decentering White, Western norms and values; thus practice values, skills and techniques from other countries, cultures and traditions are presented. Non-Western traditional values will examined, applied and compared to those learned in other classes to help students prepare to apply each technique, intervention as needed to best serve clients. This course will use a strengths perspective, recognizing the value of clients’ experiences, perspectives, knowledge, skills and abilities to address their needs. Practicum embedded course.
