Advisory: Completion of IET-407, or two or more years of field related work experience and basic computer skills. This course will develop relevant and critical skills for the modern industry in automation and controls using CompactLogix controllers and Studio 5000 software. In this course we cover what a PLC is used for and how to set up communications between the controller and a computer along with wiring, reading and writing ladder logic, and operation of the programmable logic controller (PLC). Students will connect, configure and program ladder logic for PLC applications. The course gives a foundation of applications for formatting modules, defined tag names and program operations. Students will be able to describe the function and operation of Input/Output diagrams, as well as monitor the operation of Input and Output instructions. Students will program operations, create, download and run a PLC project that uses digital "Examine If Closed" (XIC) and "Examine If Open" (XIO) and OTE output instructions.
