Other: Students must provide proof of current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the first week of class to remain enrolled. This 8-hour certification course, approved by the Dental Board, is designed to meet the legal requirements for unlicensed dental assistants to work or volunteer in a dental office. The course is also designed to meet the minimum requirements for the 8-hour infection control course as mandated by the California Board of Dental Examiners and Cal-DOSH, in compliance with B&P Section 1756(b). Offered by Chaffey College through a hybrid learning model, the course combines online didactic instruction with an assessment and on-campus hands-on laboratory activities to earn certification. Students will develop the foundational competencies necessary to implement infection control protocols effectively and safely in a dental practice. Topics covered include the infectious disease process, microbiology, and methods of disease transmission, along with practical applications of disinfection and sterilization techniques. Emphasis is placed on compliance with OSHA standards, workplace ergonomics, dental waterline maintenance, and proper waste management. Non-credit.
