THE THEORY AND PRACTICE OF TEACHING READING

Catalog description

Introduction to research in the cognitive and linguistic processes of reading; research in the motivational and sociocultural foundations of literacy; evidence-based instructional practices and strategies that support literacy; and a range of assessment practices that inform reading instruction. Particular focus will be placed on lesson planning with attention to issues of linguistic and cultural difference in reading instruction, including social justice, equity, and development of readerly identities.
