Catalog description
This course introduces teacher candidates to social studies as both an academic field and a teaching practice. Designed for future middle and high school educators, this course provides a foundation in the key concepts students need to understand social studies as an academic field. Drawing on current theory and research in social studies education, the course promotes skills in reasoned decision making on social and political issues, while advancing understanding of humanity, and engaging teacher candidates in thoughtful discussions about the common good.
