Catalog description

Multicultural Education in the early childhood classroom begins with the development of cultural competence leading to effective culturally responsive teaching beliefs and practices for today’s diverse society. This course experience illuminates multicultural education as a vehicle to provide equitable education for young children. Graduate students will examine their own development of cultural competence, analyze multicultural education theories and ideals impacting early childhood education, identify, observe and synthesize culturally responsive teaching practices, and create a cultural competence and teaching/leadership personal plan. This is a professional education course.
