Catalog description

The purpose of this course is to provide construction management students an opportunity to become familiar with the properties of aggregates, cement, concrete, asphalt, steel, masonry, and timber. The knowledge and understanding of these properties will help them design and build safe products and structures. Students will also get an in-depth look at Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) mixture designs and asphalt concrete (AC) mixture designs. They will be able to follow standard procedures in determining properties of materials and will be able to interpret the results of tests conducted in the laboratory. During the concrete laboratory portion of the class students will be able to obtain their American Concrete Institute (ACI) Grade I certification.
