An overview course in correctional theory and practice. Traces the historical development of corrections with emphasis on changing social standards and philosophies. Examines the various types of correctional institutions, their mission, physical structure, management, and problems. Also examines probation and parole, including theory, practice and major issues confronting these correctional alternatives.
