First of a two course sequence that introduces the fundamental principles of chemistry and the reactivity of chemical elements and compounds. This course emphasizes modern atomic theory, structure and behavior of atoms and molecules, physical properties of matter, chemical reactions and energy relations, periodicity, and the mole concept and its applications. Includes laboratory experience.
