Catalog description

This course provides an overview of typical and atypical speech sound development from infancy through adulthood. Students will explore the nature, characteristics, assessment, and treatment of speech sound disorders (including articulation and phonological disorders, motor speech disorders, and residual errors). Emphasis is placed on understanding the developmental, linguistic, cognitive, cultural, and social factors that influence communication across the lifespan. Students will gain foundational knowledge in analyzing speech errors, differential diagnosis, and evidence-based intervention approaches. This course prepares students for advanced study and clinical application in speech-language pathology. Requires 7 clock hours of clinical observation.
