Catalog description

This course will explore the musical traditions of cultures around the world from an ethnomusicological perspective. Students will examine how music is defined, valued, and utilized as well as how it relates to each region's history, economy, society, and culture. Geographical areas of focus will include Oceania, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, the Caribbean, Latin America, and Native America.
