Linguistics for Lang Learning

Catalog description

An analytical approach to language study applicable to learning any second language. Identifying and analyzing basic elements of linguistic structure are the primary skills developed in this course. The student is also introduced to general linguistic frameworks for language acquisition, the effects of context on language use, and dialect variation. Themes throughout the course include the value of language learning in modern society, accurate analysis and interpretation of linguistic data, clear articulation of linguistic issues, and developing awareness of critical issues with communication in multilingual and multicultural contexts. Prerequisite: Degree-seeking students only.
