Graduate Movement III: Dynamics of Composition I: Alive in the Theatrical Space

This course in composition and physical storytelling is an in depth inquiry into the essential dynamics of space, time and presence. We explore both expressive and clarified movement, working with polarities such as balance and imbalance, stillness and movement, sound and silence, and internal and external awareness, all to expand range, capacity, and depth of presence. This embodied research, practiced through solo, partner, and ensemble forms, calls on instinct and collaborative willingness as it cultivates the actor as playmaker. Deepening the exploration of space, time, and presence, actors will further manifest as shape shifters and meaning makers, applying learned practices to character, relationship, object, and text. In addition, actors will continue their development of warm up and rehearsal techniques, collaborative process, and experiential wisdom. In a spirit of play, we cultivate the ability to respond. In this course we ask, "How can we articulate these dynamics in order to best serve the unfolding of story and illuminate the meaning of performance, character and play?" Prereq: THTR 401 and THTR 402 .
