Catalog description

This course covers statistical aspects of machine learning. This will include formalizing what it means for a machine learning algorithm to learn from data. How do we use statistical/mathematical ideas and thinking to design better machine learning methods? Throughout the course, theorems alongside practical applications and intuitive explanations will be covered, to aid students in choosing the right methods for their research. Prereq: ( STAT 325 or STAT 425 ) and ( STAT 302 or MATH 380 or STAT 445 ).
