Introduction to a distinctive trend in contemporary Latin American literature, the prose portrayal of the "fantastic," a new narrative mode in Latin America. Critical examination of selected texts reveals new concepts of space and time and an increasing complexity of structure and style, one which juxtaposes and analyzes fantasy and reality. Offered as SPAN 326 and SPAN 426 . Counts as a CAS Global & Cultural Diversity course. Prereq: SPAN 320 .
