Social Movements and Social Change

Catalog description

This course will introduce students to the theories of social movements and collective action. We look at the conditions that create grievances in democracies, how grievances get translated into collective action, and what types of collective actions are successful for bringing about social change. We discuss a variety of movements in the U.S. in the 20th century to illustrate these theories and concepts. Counts as a Disciplinary Communication course. Counts as a Moral & Ethical Reasoning course. Prereq: SOCI 101 or requisites not met permission.
