Basics of Probability and Statistical Theory

Catalog description

A basic introduction to the principles of probability and statistics. Necessary math and calculus will be reviewed. This course is paired with PQHS 431 and aims to give students a brief background in statistical theory which will give students the knowledge and foundation to intuitively apply statistics in practice. Topics covered include: conditional probability, independence, random variables, means, variance, probability mass functions, probability density functions, cumulative distribution functions, correlation, covariance, simulations, random samples, likelihood, maximum likelihood estimators, hypothesis testing, and the likelihood ratio test.
