Catalog description

After becoming independent in 1991, Russia faced three challenges: the creation of a sovereign state, the development of a new political system, and the restructuring of its economy. In this course we will evaluate Russia's efforts, by examining center-periphery relations, nationalism, soft vs. hard power, democracy and authoritarianism, and socialism and market reform in the country. Learning these concepts will also help students understand other countries' politics. Offered as POSC 377 and POSC 477 . Counts as a CAS Global & Cultural Diversity course.
