Catalog description

Local and regional politics have an enormous impact on people's lives around the world. Why do residents of one city enjoy political rights and a higher standard of living, for example, while those in a neighboring city in the same country do not? Students will explore this and related puzzles by interacting with government officials, reading the latest research, and investigating their own questions. This course examines local politics, in cities and rural areas, as well as regional politics, in states and provinces, throughout the world. The course will help prepare students to work in government and also in fields that work closely with governments, including public health, civil engineering, the nonprofit sector, and advocacy. Offered as POSC 368 and POSC 468 . Counts as a Local & Global Engagement course. Counts as a Understanding Global Perspectives course.
