AI & the Human Mind: Cognition, Augmentation & Value

How do today's artificial intelligences think, and in what ways do they echo--or diverge from--the human mind? What happens when we collaborate with AI tools, and how will automation reshape which human skills are most valued? This seminar blends philosophy, psychology, cognitive neuroscience, and organizational behavior. It is intentionally student-led: each week, rotating student teams curate the readings, convene discussion, and synthesize insights. Communication is treated as a core skill. Using AI as a tool and aid rather than a replacement for your own writing practice, you will draft, revise, and present interdisciplinary scholarship, culminating in a portfolio-ready research paper and a student conference. Counts as a Communication Intensive course. Counts as a Moral & Ethical Reasoning course.
