This course introduces the art and science of managing people to enable them to function effectively in social systems! We will look at how to recruit, assess and retain talented individuals, how to assess the value of a position, how to obtain what you are worth, how to interview for and obtain jobs, and how to manage disciplinary challenges at work. This course will assist future leaders understand how an effective human resources strategy contributes to individual, organizational, and societal good. Students will discuss emerging trends in human resource management (HRM) and what future managers and leaders can do to ensure an inclusive approach resulting in positive and measurable outcomes. Topics will include how to evaluate and negotiate compensation, how organizations determine what a job is worth, recruitment and selection, best practices to interview prospective employees, how to handle problem employees, labor management relations, negotiating with unions, how employers assess performance, managing people working in international companies, and how the HRM function helps leaders execute the organization's strategy to enable employees and organizations to maximize personal and organizational growth.
