Data Science in Healthcare

Catalog description
This course introduces students to key concepts in artificial intelligence (AI) and data science with a focus on applications in healthcare delivery and clinical research. The course will discuss common sources of structured and unstructured clinical healthcare data, and the theory and application of different methodologies including machine learning and AI. Students will be introduced to the tools and processes used to clean data, perform analysis, and visualize data through experiential learning. The integration of AI and data science research into clinical practice at the population level (e.g. disease surveillance), system level (e.g. learning health systems) and patient-level (e.g. precision health) will also be discussed. Prereq: NURS 530 and NURS 532 or Requisites Not Met permission.
