Molecular Methods in Clinical Research

Catalog description

This mixed lecture and laboratory-based course provides an introductory overview of the biological basis and practical application of molecular methods used in human health sciences research. The course will review the structure and function of the human genome, transcriptome, and proteome, and discuss how underlying alterations to these molecular units are associated with clinical symptomology, with a particular focus on genetic variability as it relates to precision healthcare. Students will gain hands-on exposure to common molecular techniques used for genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic analysis, and explore how they can be employed to answer clinically oriented research questions. Prereq: Enrolled in the PhD in Nursing program.
