General Systems Theory: Foundations for Practice

This foundational seminar will introduce General Systems Theory as a framework for understanding complex entities comprised of component parts within constant and mutual interaction. The concepts covered will emphasize the openness and flexibility of a system by attending to its entirety as opposed to focusing on separate parts. The focus will be on the organizational structure and processes controlled through cybernetics allowing system adaptation and transformation. Students will apply General Systems Theory to address the mental health care needs of stigmatized, at risk and vulnerable populations informed by their disciplinary perspectives. Graduate standing in nursing or permission of Instructor.
