Principles of Anesthesia I

Catalog description
This course will introduce the student to the foundational principles of nurse anesthesia practice. Emphasis will be placed on the development of knowledge, skills, and techniques necessary for delivery of safe, effective anesthesia. As the first of a two-course sequence, this course focuses on the fundamental concepts of anesthesia, including patient safety, equipment use, standards of anesthesia care, and the scientific principles underlying anesthesia practice. Students will be introduced to the operating room environment, including safety protocols, sterile technique, and interdisciplinary team dynamics. Prereq: Enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) - Nurse Anesthesia program.
