Catalog description

This course prepares preservice music educators to design and lead comprehensive instrumental programs across grade levels. Emphasis is placed on the sequential development of instrumental technique and musicianship, including physiological development and instrument-specific considerations. Students develop skills in rehearsal pedagogy, instructional planning, assessment design, recruitment and retention strategies, classroom management, and program administration. Particular attention is given to culturally responsive repertoire selection, differentiation for diverse learners, and the creation of appropriately challenging musical objectives aligned with national, state, and professional standards. Moral and ethical practices, professional engagement, and effective integration of technology are examined as essential components of sustaining a high-quality instrumental music program. Eight (8) hours of Clinical/Field experiences (all ages) required. Counts as a Moral & Ethical Reasoning course.
