This course will explore the world of nonprofits: how they are defined, how they operate, how they influence everyday lives, and how they advance social change and a civil society. We will focus on answering the following questions: What is a nonprofit? What are the current trends in the sector and the key issues facing nonprofits? How are they meeting the challenges? How do they balance mission and margin? How do they measure success? How do nonprofits shape public policy, impart social justice, and protect cultural values? How can nonprofits, government, and business learn from each other and work together for public good? What new approaches are emerging that may advance social good? How have nonprofits impacted you, your family, and friends? How would you determine which nonprofits to support financially or as a volunteer? Where do you see a need for a nonprofit?
