Catalog description

While theory has much to say about what the ingredients of good leadership looks like and has provided leaders with a range of tools to manage change processes, the challenge of putting those ingredients together to drive large-scale change requires its own set of skills and knowledge. This is particularly true in healthcare, where -- due to escalating costs and mediocre outcomes, experts around the country have been pushing for transformational change for nearly two decades with little success. This course addresses the leadership challenge of leading large-scale transformational change by presenting a specific framework -- believing, belonging and building -- that will help students apply principles of resonant and adaptive leadership in real-world settings. It will then seek to help integrate a set of change management tools -- including the Objectives and Key Results Framework -- that are necessary to ensure alignment, shared accountability and ensure that teams are able to implement and measure what matters most. Developing and honing the skills necessary to lead transformation change requires years of practice, but at the end of this course, students should leave with a clear framework for leading that work and a strong sense of how to apply that framework in real world settings. Prereq: Enrolled in the online MBA in Healthcare Management.
