Artificial Intelligence & the Law

Catalog description

In this writing seminar, students will select a topic of their choosing within the broad field of AI and the law, identify and analyze an open issue in the law, develop a thesis, conduct original research, and produce a substantial scholarly paper. The first phase of the course consists of in-class sessions that will provide foundational skills in topic selection, research methodology, academic writing, and the ethical use of sources, including the responsible use of AI tools. During this phase, guest speakers from different legal disciplines will share how AI is reshaping their areas of practice. Students will then enter an independent writing period supported by individual conferences and will reconvene for presentations in the final weeks of the semester.
