Gender and Sex in the Medieval Period

Catalog description

This course introduces gender and sex in the medieval period as concepts to help us better understand the lives of medieval people. Through lectures, discussions, oral presentations and a research-based, argumentative paper, students will acquire a deep appreciation of how ideas on gender and sex developed and related with other aspects of life in medieval society. Topics will include constructions and understandings of gender, sexual proclivities, regulation of sexual activities, and select sexual practices. Counts as a Communication Intensive course.
