Early Islam: The History and Development of Islamic Civilization and Islamic Law

Catalog description

This course explores the development of Islam from prophecy through the beginnings of the Empires period. Using a combination of primary and secondary sources, we will trace the creation of the early community, the establishment of Islamic civilization, and the documentation that form the basis of the future creation of Islamic law. We also explore the impact of the development of Islamic history and law structures in the modern world, especially as they relate to diaspora communities, international law and finance, and humanitarian/nonprofit management.
