Introduction to Africana Studies

Catalog description

This course is designed to introduce students to Africana studies and the examination of Black history, cultures, economics, politics, and religion. Students will learn about the development of the field by exploring theoretical questions, methodological approaches, and major themes that have shaped the study of Black people, primarily in the U.S. context and the African diaspora but also on the African continent. This is a seminar-style, discussion-based course that emphasizes critical analysis and expository writing. Offered as AFST 252A , ETHS 252A , and HSTY 252A . Counts as a CAS Global & Cultural Diversity course.
